BMW i3 Wins 2013 Green Steering Wheel Award

At the same ceremony where the 2014 BMW F15 X5 received the 2013 Golden Steering Wheel award, BMW's first all-electric vehicle was awarded the 2013 Green Steering Wheel grand prize ("Grünes Lenkrad").

This was the second time the Munich-based automaker won this award, after claiming it once before, in 2007, for the EfficientDynamics technology that was groundbreaking at the moment and it still is.

The prize was handed to the company's CEO, Dr. Norbert Reithofer and its development chief, Dr. Herbert Diess, at a festive gala in Berlin. Over 200,000 readers voted in this contest that included 49 new models, in six assessment categories.

In its own category, the i3 won with a 95-point lead over the runner-up car, adding up to 1,670 points, after intensive testing performed by the jury (that was made up of racing drivers, designers, technicians, editors and prominent testers).
