The first rumors about BMW i3's pricing seem to be pretty accurate, placing it somewhere near the price of a 3 Series (that starts at $32,000 in the US). Autoblog attended an early pre-production drive of the all-electric vehicle and asking questions left and right they finally got a ballpark for the car's price tag.
According to them, the i3 will cost €35,000 in Europe whilst in the US it will start at $34,500. That's for the all-electric version. If you're going for the one with the range-extender feature (a 2-cylinder 600cc engine that acts as a generator) it will only cost you an extra €2,000 in Europe and $2,000 in the US.
With this feature, the i3's range is doubled, reaching almost 200 miles (320 km), quenching the thirst of those range-anxiety driven people out there. The standard electric engine has 168 HP and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque and is powered by a 22-kWh lithium-ion battery placed under the passenger compartment.
As far as deliveries go, the Europeans will be the first to get the new car, the first ones to be delivered in November on the old continent. The US will receive the first i3s somewhere around January 2014. Don't be fooled though, the US is still seen as the clear number one market for the i3.
