The guys from Autocar claim that their publication is the oldest in the branch. Also, they claim that only cars that matter will be tested and rated. That brings us to the i3.
The all-electric vehicle from BMW was tested by the guys so that means it matters. Let's see what they had to say about the city-car that is supposed to change all our lives.

The i3 is powered by an electric motor that produces 170 HP and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque and will send the CFRP built car to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.2 seconds, not that it would matter. After all, this car was built for easy daily commutes and not for racing.

What they found interesting about the i3 is the fact that, unlike all other BMWs (excepting the SUVs) you actually step up to get in, over some substantial sills. You also sit pretty high in the cabin but you have great visibility.

The main controls are like nothing you've ever seen before in a BMW and will actually make you think you're in a spaceship. To go forward you press the start button with your thumb and push the gear lever forward with the palm of your hand.

The motor does make a little sound in the background but you'll hardly notice it. The tires and wind noise will immediately seem louder even though they are pretty cancelled out.

As a conclusion, they said that "the signs are that the i3 will be an excellent city car with urgent performance, outstanding manoeuvrability, engaging handling and a high level of refinement. That it emits no CO2 will also see it provide a potential financial bonus for some, not least those who face a daily commute into city centres where a congestion charge is in place."

That seems promising.
