BMW i3 and i8 Up for Auto Motor und Sport’s 2014 Car of the Year Award

It’s been a long lasting tradition in Germany for Auto Motor und Sport to hold a contest, choosing the best of the best of each year of automotive greatness. This year, BMW is well represented (as always) with contestants in all but one category.

A first for the Bavarian manufacturer is the presence of its EV, the i3 amongst the contestants, in the Small Car category. The new model from Munich is already saying much, generating incredible buzz around the internet and the automotive world, reportedly more than 100,000 people worldwide, waiting for a test drive.

Next to the i3, in the Sport Car category we have another first for BMW, the i8, the company’s first ever plug-in hybrid sportscar. With 362 HP, 570 Nm of torque, 4.4 seconds to 100 km/h (62 mph) and a fuel consumption of 2.5 l/100 km (94 mpg), the i8 looks very good in its category, not to mention the amazing looks it has.

However, there are other interesting cars in their line-up too so, if you want to cast your vote and speak a little German, go to www.leserumfragen.de/ams and enter code x920. You’ll receive a confirmation e-mail and you’ll be set to start voting. Good luck!
