Contrary to what you might expect, the richest person in the Auto Industry is not a man. Susanne Klatten, the daughter of Herbert and Johanna Quandt is the world's 58th richest person, placing her at the top of the auto industry.
Valued by Forbes at around $14.3 billion (€11 billion), Susanne inherited 12.5% of the BMW shares from her father, who rescued the company from bankruptcy during the 1950s and 1960s.

Today, Susanne holds a top-management position in the BMW Group as a member of the Supervisory Board along with her brother, Stefan Quandt since 1997. She also holds stakes at one of the biggest chemical companies in Germany, Altana.

However, she is not the only Forbes 500 member to have gained a fortune from the automotive industry. At number 191, with $6.3 billion (€4.8 billion), you'll find Hyundai's Chung Mong-Koo, at number 527, with $2.7 billion (€2.09 billion) stands Tesla's Elon Musk whilst racing magnate, Roger Penske stands at number 1,175 with $1.2 billion (€930 million).
