BMW Grows in the UK, Despite Contracting Market

BMW Group's British division has reported increased sales figures for the month of November. According to the figures released today, 13,079 vehicles were sold on the UK market, which is 12.3 percent more than the 11,644 sold in the same month of last year. BMW Group (BMW and MINI combined) has also managed a total of 141,165 vehicles sales for the first 11 months of 2010, 11.3 percent better than in the same period of last year.

“We have seen a strong sales performance from BMW Group in the UK this year and, with sales passing the 100,000 mark, BMW is on track to secure its position as the UK’s leading premium brand for the year,” stated Tim Abbott, Managing Director of BMW Group UK.

The company is doing much better than the general UK car market, which contracted by 11.5 percent in November and only increased 3.4 percent for the year to date. From January to November, sales of BMW brand vehicles increased by 12.3 percent, with the total of 102,045 vehicles representing just over 5 percent of the UK market. MINI is also performing well, currently occupying the position of ninth best-selling car in the UK. With sales of 39,120 vehicles for the year to date, an increase of more than eight percent was recorded as compared to the same period in 2009.

“Both BMW and MINI brands have outperformed the market year to date and this is being driven by the 3 Series which became the UK’s sixth best-selling car in November and the new 5 Series saloon models.  The MINI Countryman is sold out until next spring and demand is already looking very high for the newly-launched 5 Series Touring and X3,” Abbott also added.
