BMW Group US Sales Drop 0.8 Percent in November

For the first time, in a really long record, the BMW sales recorded a drop in demand in the US. The BMW Group managed to sell just 36,028 vehicles in November which represent a 0.8 percent drop compared to the 36,327 units sold in the same month of 2013. It might not seem like much, but it could rain on BMW’s parade later on.

That’s because the Germans want to break their own records once again this year and sell over 2 million cars by the end of December. Despite setting this high goal for 2016 initially, encouraging prospects convinced the officials to try and reach the milestone this year.

Up until now, things have been looking up. On a year-to-date basis, even with the drop recorded last month, the company is up by 4.8 percent in the States, selling 347,709 units compared to the 331,801 delivered in the same period of 2013.

“The traffic in our showrooms was very strong in November, especially over the Thanksgiving weekend, and I expect that momentum to continue in December and carry us to an all-time sales record at the end of 2014,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America.

“I am especially pleased to see MINI moving forward as availability of the new models improves. On the BMW side, the new X6 joins the U.S. model lineup this month adding even more breadth to what I regard as the best BMW model range ever,” he added.

It’s true, the MINI brand sales went up by 9.5 percent last month, adding up to 5,009 units in total, compared to the 4,575 units sold in 2013’s 11th month. Even so, it wasn’t enough to compensate for the rest of the year and the numbers so far show a drop of 17.4 percent in sales since January.

BMW Brand sales, on the other hand, took a dive of 2.3 percent in November, with 31,019 units sold compared to 31,752 delivered in the same month of 2013. On a year-to-date basis, the brand looks strong with a 9.7 percent increase to 298,212 units versus 271,891 cars sold in the same period of 2013.
