BMW Group Sales Reach 1.9 Million in November, Inching Closer to 2 Million Mark

When BMW said that they will be breaking the 2 million premium cars sold in 2014 some rushed to become non-believers. However, the management team led by Ian Robertson (the Sales Chief) knew what it was saying and the numbers posted in November seem to confirm their predictions.

Over the course of last month, the BMW Group sold 188,342 cars, a new record for the 11th period of the year and also an increase of 7.6 percent compared to last year. That brought the grand total so far in 2014 up to 1,902,699 units, just shy of the 2 million mark set to be achieved by the end of December. It’s also a 7.1 percent increase on a year-to-date basis that prompted Ian Robertson to say:

“November continues the sales growth we have seen throughout the year. Our new models have made a very good start, while our core models continue to record a steady increase in sales. We can now be confident of achieving our target of selling over two million vehicles by the end of the year, a new record for the BMW Group.”

BMW brand vehicles

As far as only BMW brand vehicles go, the growth was of 6.2 percent on a monthly basis, reaching 158,953 by November 30th. This too marks a new record as last year only 149,659 units were sold in the same month. As far as year-to-date numbers go, the total reached up to 1,633,722 units, an increase of 9 percent compared to 2013.

The 2 Series Active Tourer, the brand’s first front-wheel drive car, just went on sale and already found 6,918 homes. The 3 Series remains the biggest seller with 423,064 units to which we can add the 4 Series sales in total of 104,910 since the two used to be part of the same model nomenclature.

Sales of the i sub-brand cars went above the 15,000 counter with 13,849 of them being i3s and 1,129 i8s.

MINI brand sales

MINI has been struggling this year, with the new model being slowly introduced worldwide. Sales have taken a hit but things are starting to look up once again. On a worldwide scale, the sales of wing-badged cars have reached a new record for November.

Global deliveries added up to 29,018 units, a 16.7 percent jump compared to the same month of last year. The 3-door MINI is the most popular car, by far, with 13,248 units sold, an increase of 16.7 percent compared to last year (10,488 units).

On a year-to-date basis, things aren’t looking all that good. They add up to just 265,404 which represents a 3.3 percent drop compared to the first 11 months of 2013 when 274,575 units were delivered.
