BMW decided to try and reach the incredible milestone of selling 2 million cars this year earlier on, forgetting about the previous term they had in mind: 2016. In their endeavor, the Germans managed to break all their previous records so far and are now posting unbelievable results as we look back on the second quarter of the year.
Their analysis showed that the BMW Group deliveries (BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce combined) went up by 5.3 percent during the second quarter of 2014 to a grand total of 533,187 units over the three months (April, May, June). During the same period of 2013, the company managed to sell just 506,321 units.

Of course, all other numbers went up as well, with the reported profit before tax growing by 19.6% over the first half of the year and the total sales volume reaching a total of 1,020,211 units, 6.9 percent more than in 2013. The company is right on track at the moment.

"The BMW Group increased sales volume, revenues and Group earnings in both the second quarter and the six-month reporting periods, continuing the successful development of our business," said Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, on Tuesday in Munich.

The king of sales remained the 3 Series so far, even though it recorded a slight decrease in demand compared to last year (-0.6 percent). The 5 Series followed in close with 193,560 units sold, posting a 7.6 percent growth.

The i3 was already delivered to 5,396 customers during the first 6 months of the year, even though it just entered the Japanese and US markets.

"After our record sales volume performance in the first half of the year, we are now targeting a significant increase in the number of vehicles delivered to customers in the current year and hence a new sales record of over two million vehicles," Reithofer stated.

Asia remains the biggest market for BMW, after Europe, of course. Over the first six months of the year 322,943 vehicles were sold there, an 18.3 percent increase compared to last year. China is the biggest growth driver in the area, accounting for 225,490 cars of the total.
