Not too long ago, BMW, MINI and GoPro announced that the world-famous cameras will, from now on, be controllable from inside the vehicles, through the infotainment systems. This made BMW (and MINI) the first manufacturers in the world to go to such far extents in helping their owners film their racing endeavors.
At the time of the launch, we weren’t all that sure of how this thing would work but, fortunately, now we can see first hand how everything works. That’s because the guys from Mischief TV filmed one of these setups in action not too long ago.

The clip is about a week old but it shows just how easy it is to run a GoPro camera from inside the cabin, without having to use your phone or take your eyes off the road.

So, how does it work? Well, you have to connect your camera to your phone and then connect the phone to the car’s iDrive system. The image recorded by the GoPro will then show up on your car’s infotainment screen, showing you the action in real time.

You can then access all the functions of the camera, through the iDrive system. You can erase them in a matter of seconds if you want to, in order to not incriminate yourself (you know what we mean).

The guys from Mischief TV could very well use that function because they even raced a Corvette while they were presenting the GoPro, on what looks like an open highway. We’re hoping we’re wrong though...

The Corvette pulled away, even though it seems like it was slightly tuned. Looking over the specs of the two you’ll notice that the Bimmer did rather good, considering it’s using only a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine compared to the ‘Vette’s 7-liter V8 with its 505 HP and 637 Nm (470 lb-ft) of torque. Check it out!
