In the search for the perfect mix between fuel consumption, emission levels and performance, BMW developed a new 3-cylinder engine that is going to usher a new era for the German manufacturer.
That new engine will be used in future cars like the ActiveTourer, the i8 and, most surprisingly, the new 7 Series. BMW officials said today, April 1st, that the 3-cylinder engine will definitely be available for the G11 platform.
The unparalleled level of performance and efficiency reached by the new engine is enough to place it in the future line-up for the future full-size luxury sedan. Even though some people might complain about the lack of grunt and the "weird" noise coming out of the exhaust pipes, officials from the German company said that "As long as it is powerful enough to move the car, any engine will be suitable, including the 3-cylinder B38".
This is worrying news for BMW fans that expected some downsized engines for the new 7er, as we reported, but not to this extent. It seems like all we have to do now, is wait and see what will come of this new, 715i.
