The 2015 BMW M3 is a really potent machine on the drag strip, despite its conventional looks. Yeah, you know what we mean. Usually, drag strip kings have a specific look that involves either oversized wheels or a wheelie bar. The M3 on the other hand looks a bit aggressive but not to that extent.
And yet a lot of cars fell under its metaphorical sword and the following Audi RS4 Avant was no exception. Oops, maybe we should’ve said ‘Spoiler Alert!’ but it makes no difference anyway, the four-ringed car was completely obliterated by the BMW M3.

What do the specs say?

Looking over the performance the two should theoretically put down, there’s little to differentiate them. The Audi RS4 Avant comes prepared with a 4.2-liter V8 making 450 HP and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque hooked up to a 7-speed double-clutch gearbox and the usual quattro all-wheel drive system.

The M3 on the other hand has less HP and more torque. The 3-liter inline 6-cylinder twin-turbocharged plant makes 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque, all of which is sent to the rear axle through a 7-speed DCT gearbox and a CFRP shaft.

As you can see, there’s really not that much to separate them here. However, the Motorsport division worked extra hard to make the new M3 lighter than before and you can see that in this drag race. That’s the key element that won it the race because compared to the Audi, the Bimmer is 235 kg (518 lbs) lighter.
