We saw the new F80 M3 in spy shots and in spy clips all over the internet lately, meaning that BMW is really gunning it down the last 100 yards, testing every possible thing on the new car. It also means the F80 M3 and F82 M4 are nearing production ready versions.

However, we never got the chance to get close enough to the cars to actually hear them roar and gun down the street. Until now! A Bimmerpost member was lucky enough to see one camouflaged prototype of the car on the Pacific Coast Highway, at night.

Being a BMW fan, he immediately knew that the car had to be captured on video and the experience shared with the rest of the BMW community. So, now we have a clip of the upcoming M3 on the highway. Unfortunately, the driver didn’t redline the car and the recording device was a mere phone but stil..

We can still make out some of the sounds and we have to admit, it seems like the M3 is getting back to the basics. After receiving a lot of criticism about being overweight and slow, the M cars seem to be getting back on track.

The new M3 returns to the classic 6-cylinder in-line engines (even though turbocharged), is lighter and now sounds like one of the best M3s ever built, the E46 M3 model. Even the interior looks a bit like the E46, according to the guy who recorded the Bimmer, even though we can’t say due to the quality of the video (we’ll just have to believe him). Check out the video yourself and let us know what you think!
