Remember the kickstand issues with several BMW F700GS and F800GS in Canada? We told you that we might get to see the problem detected in more bikes, and we were right, as the NHTSA issued campaign number 12V279000, recalling a hefty lot of motorcycles.
The number of potential bikes affected in the US is 870, and BMW announces the recall will begin in August. 2013 F700GS and F800GS models manufactured June 1st 2012 through October 18, 2012 are more likely to develop the safety issue.
The problem is the same: the side-stand sensor may become damaged, thus no longer killing the engine when shifting into gear, as it it supposed to.
This means that riders could technically ride with the kickstand lowered, and this is a major risk of crashing in the first left-hand turns. BMW dealers will install a new securing system for the sensor free of charge. You can contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email them at [email protected].
