BMW F52 1 Series Sedan Rendered: Close to the Real Deal

It’s been on the news for quite some time and we’ve already seen the upcoming BMW 1 Series Sedan out testing in early and more developed prototypes but we’re yet to see the first sketches of the thing. Renderers around the world tried to bring out their ideas on how it would turn out and here’s the latest.

Courtesy of RM.Design we can now take a closer look at what we believe seems close to what the end product will be like. Since this is rumored to be a front-wheel drive car and has to be part of the 1 Series range, it’s a bit of a conundrum.

From a styling point of view, it should borrow cues from both the new 1 Series LCI and the 2 Series Active Tourer which is exactly what we have below. Up front you’ll notice the 2 Series Active Tourer’s bumper along with the kidney grille that comes from the same model.

At the same time, the headlights are borrowed from the 1 Seriees and so are the side mirrors and the wheels. Round the back we have a combination of the two once again, the taillights looking like an adaptation of those used on the 2 Series AT. The twin tailpipes are always welcome.

As far as the greenhouse goes, things look a lot like on the 3 Series only on a different scale. Of course, the Hoffmeister Kink is included on the C-Pillar as one of the defining elements of a BMW. Speaking of BMW styling, the corona rings up front and kidney grilles are also part of this mix.

It all looks very doable but what will BMW’s take on the matter be?

Entering this niche makes a lot of sense but if the Bavarians want to have the upper hand on their rivals, they can’t just create a different body and offer a car with a similar size on the same price range and hope for the best.

The 1 Series Sedan would be best off with a rear-wheel drive setup even if it means losing some cabin space. Sure, from an accountant’s point of view, building it atop the UKL FWD platform makes a lot more sense but the edge would be lost here.

Offering a rear-wheel drive car in the world dominated by the FWD Audi A3 sedan and the CLA-Class with a similar layout would be the winning move here. Furthermore, it would point out to the fact that BMW wants to keep the 2 Series Coupe RWD which is an untouchable subject in the gear head community. Since the car is already being tested, we can only imagine that a decision was already made. Let’s hope for the best!
