We know that, usually, British magazines have a way of dissing German cars and claim that the UK based companies (because most of them are not owned by UK companies anymore) make much better cars. It's also the case with CAR Magazine's latest test drive.
They took BMW's new 3 Series GT out for a test in two variations: the 320d and 335i, the cars that will most likely be the most popular on the European market. However, they decided this car was pointless.
Let's see what arguments they had. Well, first of all, the whole decision was based on the modified feel of the car, when compared to the sedan. Now, let's get one thing straight: the GT 3 Series is not trying to be exactly the same as the Sedan. That would even be impossible as it is 145 kg heavier and a lot longer.
On the contrary, the GT is a car of its own. It's destined for people that desire comfort for long trips for them AND for their families. They are not aiming at people that are so ego centrical that only think about themselves and how well it feels to drive this car through curvy roads with any regard for the well being of the passengers.
These things considered, the GT does very well actually, as we've seen in previous tests, that agreed with out position. If you look at this car from the wrong point of view (e.g. as a sports sedan to take around Brands Hatch) you'll definitely be disappointed. If you look at what it really is, you'll notice it's more than a bigger 3er.
