Most test drives of a car are usually limited to a day, maybe two. That is way too little to formulate a trustworthy opinion about a car. Sure, some cars might take only 5 minutes to convince you that they're perfect but most of them will take some convincing.
The guys from Auto Express were lucky enough to get a BMW 4 Series for 3 full days, driving it across the UK. Their model was a 420d, a car that will surely be the best selling model in Europe, for its torque and fuel efficiency.
Those are not the only aspects at which a possible buyer will frown at. The 4er also has to be better than the 3 Series Coupe it replaces, to be practical and comfortable and, at times, dynamic.
Over the prolonged test, the guys tested all those attributes. The long drive wasn't as exhausting as they first thought, the 4er proving to be quite a comfortable car for long journeys.
The boot took in all the luggage needed for such a long trip and, on the country's beautiful roads, it even turned into an agile cat in tight turns and narrow streets.
Overall, just as Auto Express claims, for now, you won't find a better car in this segment. No matter what other cars are offering, the 4 Series is the king of the luxury compact coupe and it will stay like this for quite a while.
