BMW's F20 1 Series has some pretty big shoes to fill. After the E82 model came out, everyone praised its handling and incredible feel, whilst also calling it's most powerful model, the 1M Coupe, a "Baby M3" (a true honor for the newcomer).
The guys from Autocar had the audacity to put the M135i xDrive model to the test on a snowy road. They weren't disappointed.
The N55 3-liter engine with its 320 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque proved to be more than happy to comply to each of the guys' tests, shifting carelessly and without a hitch through the 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The xDrive system was more than capable. Even though usually it sends 60% of its power to the rear wheels to keep the BMW feeling at home in the 1er, the electronically controlled multi-plate clutch distributes power between the front and rear axles perfectly.
On the snowy track they had, the car did ok on most surfaces, even on icy or moderately deep snow (of course, keeping a certain momentum at all times).
Unfortunately, the M135i xDrive is not currently available in the UK but it would be a definite good option in case you want a high performance car that can also handle icy slopes and bad weather.
