Currently, in BMW's portfolio, one car definitely stands out as the cheapest diesel option in the whole range: the BMW 114d, that comes both as a 3-door version or as a 5-door one.
This car is fitted with a 2-liter turbocharged diesel that makes only 95 HP and 235 Nm (173 lb-ft) of torque in this entry-level version, a car meant for economy, not high-speeds and racing stripes.

Hartge developed an upgrade kit even for this model, taking it well above 100 HP though, for those people that actually want more out of this little hatchback. Their version of the 114d has 136 HP and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque.

The differences are notable, especially in handling and agility. For example, the stock car goes from 80 to 200 km/h (50-124 mph) in 53.94 seconds, whilst the Hartge alternative does it in 29.93 seconds, 24.01 seconds faster. Don't believe something like this is possible? Check the video below.
