If one was to compare the new BMW X6 with the old version, he’d have to be prepared for a thorough analysis and he’s have to be equipped with a keen eye for detail. That’s because the two might seem different but in reality they are more alike than you’d expect.
The precise exterior measurements show us that the new model grew in size but only by a slight margin. In length, the F16 has 3 cm (1.18 inches) extra over its predecessor, it’s also 2.5 cm (1 inch) wider and just 3 mm taller (0.11 inch), making it just slightly bulkier.

However, other details make the new X6 a more up to date proposal to those looking for a Sport Activity Coupe. The headlights have been reshaped, more in tune with the look of its brother, the F15 X5, while the rear lights also evolved into a bigger shaped that imposes more respect.

Looking from the side, you can easily notice new character lines and a longer overhang at the back, while up front things remained the same in this regard. The front fascia recorded the biggest change overall, as it was only natural.

Inside, the difference are related more to the styling and materials used, BMW clearly going for a more premium feel than on the outgoing version. As for the space inside, the new model has 11 mm (0.4 inches) more elbow room up front while in the back that difference is reduced to just 1 mm. As we said, barely noticeable.

Headroom should also be a bit better, both up front and in the back. In front of the dash, drivers with torsos measuring up to 1013 mm (39 inch) should be comfortable while in the back those measuring more than 961 mm (37.8 inches) would have a hard time on longer trips. On the first X6 launched, those measurements would add up to 973 mm (38.3 inches) up front and 946 mm (37.2 inches).

A plethora of new options are now available on the new X6, including chassis tuning packages and new assistance features included in the iDrive system. Speaking of which, every new model gets a 10.25” display as standard inside the cockpit. We told you more about them here.

Now, looking over the photos below, what’s your stand on the new model. Is it better or worse looking than its predecessor? Would you be tempted to buy one?
