BMW F10 550i Will No Longer Be Offered on the Australian Market

Today is a sad day for V8 and BMW fans in Australia. That’s because the Germans just announced that the 550i model will no longer be available in the land down low, a rather logical move that took us by surprise anyway. This comes after sales of the aforementioned model simply plummeted, making it unprofitable to continue selling it.

It’s no surprise either since the price tag it had was sky high. In case you didn’t know, luxury cars are taxed heavily in Australia and the top of the range 5er had a starting price of AUD159,930 in Luxury line spec and AUD163,930 in M Sport trim. In case you’re not up to date with the exchange rates these days, that’s $124,679 and $127,800 respectively. That’s M5 money right there...

Sure, the two shared the 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo layout but there’s a notable difference in specs from 450 HP and 650 Nm (484 lb-ft) of torque to 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft), isn’t there?

That’s not the only news today brought for BMW enthusiasts in Australia. There are two new packages on the table now for the rest of the line-up. The Professional Package will be available for 520i, 520d and 528i models in either sedan, touring or Gran Turismo guise.

It includes HUD, keyless go, surround view camera system, digital radio, lane change warning system, driving assistant and seat heating for AUD900 on the 528i, AUD2,400 for the 520d Gran Turismo and AUD3,400 for the 520i and 520d in Sedan and Touring guises.

The Exclusive Package costs AUD3,800 on every model, from the 535i to the 535d version in either Sedan, Touring or Gran Turismo guise. It will grant you access to such amenities like automatic tailgate, Individual leather instrument panel, Nappa leather upholstery, soft-close doors, comfort seats, driving assistant plus, ConnectedDrive, seat heating and lane change warning system.

Starting prices remained the same, going from AUD80,400 for the 520i Luxury Line sedan to AUD127,100 for the 535d M Sport sedan.
