Even though fans worldwide have been asking for M Touring cars for quite some time, up until now BMW only built one such model and that was the E61 M5 Touring.
The car basically shared all of its underpinnings with its Sedan, E60 model, using the same S85 5-liter V10 engine making the same 507 HP and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque. The power was even sent to the back wheels too, exactly like on the super-saloon.
However, since the boot was modified and the E61 had was more practical, the weight was also different, the Touring being a bit heavier than its 4-door counterpart. It wasn’t a big difference but it was noticeable nonetheless.
One such car can be seen in the video below, racing a much more powerful Audi RS6 model, that was tuned by the guys from MTM and is now making no less than 730 HP and has all-wheel-drive.
On the other hand, the M5 only has a modified exhaust and Supersprint headers that gave it an extra 40 HP, closing in the 550 HP margin. Even so, could it be enough to overcome the weight penalty and power difference? The video of the race should give us the answer!
