The BMW E60 M5 was and still is a beast. That 5-liter V10 seems to be coming straight out of hell, just to embarrass all those pesky little Honda Civics and Corollas at the stop light.
However, having such a car, with such an impressive engine might cost you a pretty buck just to run as it should. One of the most common problems of an E60 M5 (or any car fitted with a VANOS system) is the VANOS solenoid failure.

There isn't a true BMW E60 M5 owner that didn't come across this problem after a while and here's autoevolution's BMW Blog to the rescue. In case you want to replace those small parts by yourself, we can point you in the right direction to be sure you don't mess up.

What you're going to need: a set of Torx screwdrivers (including size 20, 25 and 30), a M8 wrench, the solenoids (part number 11367841072) and some spare time.
What you're going to do? Well, you'll be taking off almost the entire front side of your car, including the radiators. You'll be draining the cooling agent and the oil from the VANOS system and replace the failing solenoids.

The whole ordeal will take at least 2 hours, so be prepared. In case you're set to go, this DIY will take you through the process. Good luck!
