One of the most common fault you can get on a long-life BMW is a burnt lightbulb. Even though most Xenon bulbs have a huge life span, they do burn out at one point or another.
In case this happened to you, we found a most useful and easy to follow DIY. All you need is a pair of gloves (you really shouldn't touch the bulb with your fingers as the grease from them will damage it), a pair of brand new bulbs (Phillips or Osram D2S are recommended and you should definitely change both of them as they won't have the same hue afterwards) and some small hands (it's pretty tight behind the headlights and otherwise you'll have to pull out the whole thing).
The DIY is pretty straightforward. You just have to uncap the protection parts from behind the headlight, unscrew the bulb and replace it. However, you should really be careful around some specific areas and they are very well pointed out here. Enjoy!
