Top Gear will turn 20 this September so they decided to put together a top 100 of cars that were built and sold in the last 20 years. However, they weren't the ones that got to choose the winner, but the audience.
Over 100,000 people voted the best cars of the last 2 decades and the results were rather curious, to say the least. Number one in this top was the Bugatti Veyron, a car that broke the world record for the highest top speed of a road legal car when it came out.
Second was the 2005 Golf GTI Mk5, followed by another BMW creation, the Rolls-Royce Phantom (2003), the Ferrari 458, Porsche Boxster (1996) and the E46 BMW 320d.
The Bimmer even out-ranked other impressive cars like the Porsche 911, Renault Clio Williams (1993) and the Lexus LFA supercar. On the other hand, the worst car of the past 20 years was a lot easier to pick: the Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible.
