The guys from Autoexpress had a pretty interesting idea. Since diesels are becoming more and more popular around the world, mainly because of their low fuel consumption, how do they stack against purebred petrol legends?
Their new series is testing brand new cars against some of the most iconic vehicles ever made. They will be using a Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL, an Audi quattro coupe 20v, Opel Astra GT 16v, the Datsun 240z, Ford Fiesta XR, the Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI and BMW's E30 M3.
All of them used to be the pinnacle of their respective brands back in the day. How to they stack up against modern day diesels. Why diesels? Because back when these cars were everything everyone was talking about, most people hated the oil-burners, considering them a dirty alternative to the petrol equivalents.
Well, recent numbers show that the tides have turned and most of us actually like diesels these days. Actually, BMW's fastest 3 Series at the moment is the 335d models with 313 HP and a lot of torque, being faster than the 335i to the 100 km/h (62 mph) benchmark.
So, how did the E30 do against an F30 320d? You'll have to watch the video to find out (no spoilers around here).
