BMW E30 M3 Review Says It's Still a Force to Reckon With

There have been plenty of iconic cars built along the years, and I guess it all depends on what you are looking for in one to name a favorite. If you’re going for driving excitement, the E30 M3 has to be up there somehow, no matter if you’re a fan of the BMW brand or not.

It’s a car that was created during the golden age of the Bavarian manufacturer and initially it was only built so that they could race in various motorsport events. As a matter of fact, a couple more iconic BMWs came to life this way, and we need to be thankful for that.

Getting back to the E30 M3, to this day a lot of enthusiasts are saying that it is one of the best driving cars in the world. Are they right in claiming so? Jalopnik editor Travis Okulski certainly thinks so.

He took one of these beauties around the Lime Rock Park circuit and found himself quite impressed by it. This goes to show, once again, that it’s not necessarily the power that gets your blood flowing but a combination of factors most likely.

The E30 M3 is the perfect example in this regard. It only uses a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that used to make, when new, under 200 HP. However, the car was light on its feet; it had perfect balance and a chassis that was tuned to perfection. Therefore, it was able actually to use all that power and deliver the thrills you’d expect from an M car.

Today, those values seem to be long dead and gone and it’s a known fact that nobody will go back to making cars like the E30 again. That’s a damn shame, but it’s also placing a huge responsibility on our shoulders, to make sure we preserve them ones we have to enjoy them as the years go by.
