For us petrol heads, rally events and hill climbs are some of the highlights of our lives and if we get to drive old school, back-to-basics cars while at it, the better. What we have here is not real life though but appeals more to the video game enthusiast in you.
Back in 2009, the Top Gear crew travelled to Romania, in a dire and courageous attempt to discover ‘the best road in the world’. Needless to say that once they got onto the Transfagarasan highway, they were completely blown away and convinced thousands of tourists to visit it as well, via tons of burned rubber and smoke. It was a pretty good deal for Romanians, even though the Brits bashed the country’s culture at times.

The road has seen a steady increase in popularity over the years, the same applying to another road in the Carpathian mountains, located a couple of miles to the Vest from the Transfagarasan, the Transalpina highway which is actually longer and twistier.

Getting back to the matter at hand here, some enthusiasts out there managed to introduce a full scale model of the 23.6 kilometer long road into the popular racing simulator Asetto Corsa.

The game itself was built with emphasis on modding so such a move isn’t all that surprising anyhow. In the video below, we also get to watch one of our favorite cars going around the Romanian road, the E30 M3 Group A DTM BMW, a legendary model that basically won everything it could back in the day.

The graphics might not be the best and most impressive but according to reviews posted on Steam, it’s great to play it with a proper simulator that has good pedals, a responsive steering wheel and a quick shifter. According to the poster, the footage you see here was played on a Logitech G27 racing wheel together with Fanatec CSR Elite pedal, with no driving assistants.

So, if you can’t afford buying one of these cars and actually traveling to Romania to drive it on what Top Gear claimed to be ‘the best road in the world’, this might be a viable alternative. Just listen to that 4-banger!
