BMW DTM Drivers Take a Tour of Budapest on the Danube

Just before the amazing return to the Hungaroring that took place this weekend in Budapest, the eight BMW DTM drivers were taken on a tour of the Hungarian capital aboard two high-speed boats on the river Danube, the second longest one in Europe, passing through four capitals and ten countries.

If you thought that a BMW Driver’s life is filled with such moments, you’d be wrong. It’s true that they often travel to various parts of the world but most of the time they don’t get to go sightseeing or even visit the most important touristic attractions simply because there’s no time to do so.

That’s why, when they heard that this trip was being put together for them, the reactions were enthusiastic. Some of them are even really into speed boats, as Joey Hand admitted, saying that he misses his fishing rod.

Other just wanted to see the city’s attractions from a different point of view, attractions like the Chain Bridge, Gellert Hill and the parliament building. Speaking of the Chain Bridge, Timo Glock remembered that he entertained the crowd with his M4 on that exact same spot a while back and it was nice to see it from a new angle.

“I drove across that bridge on my demonstration run at the start of May – and now I have seen the outstanding view from the water too,” said Glock. “I just really like this place. And it made a nice change to explore it together with my fellow drivers on board our motorboats.”

“The tour was a lot of fun. We do not usually get to see the cities we travel to. However, we were given a unique view of Budapest from the Danube. It really is a fantastic city,” said Marco Wittmann, the winner of Sunday’s race.
