Out of the 8 drivers that raced for BMW in the DTM this year, only 7 received new contracts, one of them being dropped for next year. We’re talking about Joey Hand, the American driver posting unsatisfactory results over the 3 years he’s been with BMW.
Joining the team in 2012 when the Bavarians were making a comeback to the German Touring Car championship, Hand posted disappointing results in each year. His best overall standing was 12th back in 2013. This year, he was 20th out of the 22 drivers that started off. Admittedly, Antonio Felix da Costa, the rookie of the platoon, finished 21st but it was his first take in the DTM.

"In the DTM we will once again field eight BMW M4 DTMs, with which we obviously want to follow on from the great success we have enjoyed in recent years," said BMW's motorsport boss Jens Marquardt.

The rest of the seven drivers will keep going next year too. Marco Wittmann, Martin Tomczyk, Maxime Martin, Bruno Spengler, Augusto Farfus, Timo Glock, and Antonio Felix da Costa are all set for another season in the M4.

"Our driver line-up remains largely unchanged. Seven of our eight DTM drivers from last season will also be on track in the BMW M4 DTM in 2015. Joey Hand will go in search of new challenges in 2015. We would like to thank him for the great commitment he has shown to BMW in recent years, and wish him all the best for the future,” added Jens Marquardt.

In reply, Joey Hand posted a tweet telling all his fans to stay tuned for his next project:

This news also sheds light on more recent developments and explains why BMW took a entire group of young drivers to Jerez, Spain last week, to test them out. We’re guessing one of them will soon be signing with the blue and white roundel company for a new adventure in the DTM next year.
