BMW Dismiss Speculations about Heidfeld's Exit

BMW Sauber team principal Mario Theissen made it very clear that Nick Heidfeld is in no danger of being dropped for the 2010 campaign. Amid speculation that Nick Heidfeld's deal with the Hinwil based team is to expire at the end of this season and BMW avoided holding talks with the driver's manager for a potential extension, Theissen argued his team is traditionally deciding on the following season's lineup in the month of September each year.

In addition, the BMW motorsport director made it very clear that he places all the blame on this year's challenger, and not on the drivers for the poor results in the first 6 rounds of the season. While revealing a more competitive F1.09 will see daylight in the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix, he insisted the drivers have done everything right in trying to boost the team's results this season.

As far as our present driver line-up is concerned I am not prepared to say anything negative. At the end of the day we can only talk about that when we are fast again and our driver line-up for the next year is traditionally decided in September,” commented Theissen, who also explained his team's poor run in 2009.

In top sport you have waves of success and we've always been clear about that. The big problem for us is that for the last three years we have shown a continual upswing in results and this is our first real step back – and we have to gather ourselves and work through it. And that is what we are busy doing,” added the German official.

Talking about the possibility of being left out by BMW when setting their 2010 lineup, Heidfeld admitted he would be surprised if that happens, as he has so far brought the Hinwil based outfit its only points in 2009. The German also managed to score a podium this season, during the rain-shortened Malaysian Grand Prix.

I don't know why they would get rid of a driver who has scored six out of the six points,” said Heidfeld prior to the Monaco GP the past weekend.
