BMW Discover Problem with the F1.09

BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen revealed that the Hinwil based team has finally figured out what is wrong with their 2009 package, but insisted more time is needed for the engineers to make the necessary adjustments to the F1.09. Unlike Ferrari, however, no one was fired as a result of the findings.

As confirmed by Theissen, a few updates are aimed at improving the situation at Valencia, while a second step in the right direction is scheduled for the Singapore Grand Prix in late September.

We think we have understood (the problems), but it will take some upgrades that cannot come immediately to prove that. We will have one step in Valencia and then the final and most important one for Singapore. What we have brought here is a step in between which has been added to the programme,” said Theissen.

While revealing some minor updates are in place for the Hungarian Grand Prix, Theissen also reiterated his comments regarding BMW's development of the F1.09. The German official made it very clear that his team will continue to work on this year's package for at least three reasons:

One: the regulations don't change so what we learn can be transferred to next year. Number two: we have the test ban so the only chance to try something out is the race weekend. Number three: we need to understand where we are and how to close the gap to the front, otherwise we cannot be confident about next year's concept,” added Theissen.
