Early reports surrounding the upcoming BMW X4 stated that the new Sports Activity Coupe model will not be available in a full M version, dubbed X4 M like its bigger brothers.
However, in a recent interview, BMW Australia Managing Director, Phil Horton, might’ve said something about a possible M50d version, fitted with the same engine as the F15 X5 model.

"There are plans to expand the diesel M lineup,” Horton said. "I think where there might be potential is in the new X4, which we’ll be bringing in next year,” he added.

The big news came later on, in the interview though, as Horton said: “There is some discussion about, not an M car, but an M Performance car. Potentially with a diesel engine, but I’m not sure that that’s actually a confirmed product as yet."

That means that the officials from BMW are really thinking about such a model that would be just as good as an X4 M. Just think about what a 3-liter triturbo diesel engine with 381 HP and 740 (546 lb-ft) of torque could do to a smaller SAC such as the X4, when it’s so brilliant in the X5.
