BMW Confirms Grand Coupe Production

The premium saloon-coupe market is becoming some sort of automotive heaven, as the segment is set to receive new German angels that will guard future clients during their road journeys on Earth.

In other words, the Audi A7, which has just been presented via a set of leaked images and will be officially unveiled tomorrow, will be joined by the BMW Gran Coupe, as the latter brand confirmed that the Grand Coupe Concept will enter production.

The vehicle, which will use the 6 Series Gran Coupe name, is expected to keep most of the concept’s design features, offering solutions such as frameless windows. At the same time, the car will borrow front and rear end design elements from the upcoming generation of the 6 Series.

However, we still have to wait two years to see the the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe in action, as the car will be presented sometime in the summer of 2012. The first customers should receive their cars in fall 2012.

BMW’s latest creation will have to fight for the customers' attention with the next generation of the Mercedes CLS (the CLS will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, but you can see the uncovered car here), the aforementioned Audi A7, the Aston Martin Rapide and the Porsche Panamera.

As the M division has recently showed a great flexibility, we expect to see it’s badge on the 6 Series Gran Coupe in the future. And an ultra-performance version wouldn’t be the only special incarnation of the upcoming vehicle, as it is also expected to receive an Active Hybrid version.
