BMW has revealed the Concept X5 eDrive, a plug-in hybrid version of its all-new X5 Sports Activity Vehicle that will be shown to the public at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
Now just a concept vehicle, the X5 eDrive is motivated by a TwinPower turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor that delivers 95 HP thanks to a lithium-ion battery pack placed underneath the load area. The German automaker has yet to announce power ratings for the internal combustion unit, but our BMW expert says it should be the 184 HP version.

Moving on to fuel economy, where the X5 eDrive should do its magic trick, the manufacturer claims the hybrid SUV will consume only 3.8 liters/100 km or return 61.8 miles per gallon in the United States or 74.3 miles per gallon in the United Kingdom. CO2 emission are estimated at less than 90 g/km, while the vehicle’s electric-only range is said to be of up to 30 km (19 miles). with the top speed to be reached at 120 km/h (75 mph).

The plug-in hybrid, which can be recharged from any domestic power socket, has also received a few styling updates, including new 21-inch alloy wheels and revised roof rails. Stick around for more details as the Frankfurt Motor Show begins on September 10.
