Next year's BMW i4 will be the first fully-electric sedan to wear the blue roundel badge and save for a couple of nips and tucks, you can pretty much visualize how the car will look thanks to the just-launched Concept i4.
Initially, the concept car was supposed to be unveiled with all the bells and whistles at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, but since the festivities have been canceled it's up to BMW to organize a virtual unveiling that brings enough attention to the model.

What BMW doesn't say is that the Concept i4 and the i4 production model from 2021, respectively, translate into the death of the 4 Series Gran Coupe. Fret not, though, because the next-generation 4 Series Gran Coupe is actually the i4, resurrected from the dead like Frankenstein's monster, with electricity.

Getting back to the concept that previews next year's production model, it's worth mentioning that the drivetrain, battery and most of the design features will remain untouched. In other words, you should get used to the downright gigantic kidney grille, which will soon be worn proudly on the 4 Series Coupe, the Cabrio, the M4 and the M3.

Oddly enough, neither the concept nor the production i4 will need a regular-sized grille anyway, but you can't really stop fashion now, can you?

The Concept i4 is powered by a single electric motor that develops quite a healthy 530 horsepower, or as much as the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 in the M850i, leading to a 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) acceleration of around 4 seconds and a top sped of 200 kph (124 mph).

The motor takes its juices from a lithium-ion battery that stores approximately 80 kWh of energy, giving the Concept i4 an operating range of up to 600 km (373 miles) in the WLTP cycle. Expect the production model to features similar performance and range numbers when it goes on sale in 2021.

Last, but not least, another detail shared by the concept and the production i4 is the sound, which has been developed by none other than famous composer Hans Zimmer and BMW's Sound Designer Renzo Vitale.
