BMW's new-age ginormous kidney grilles are no longer a surprise. However, while these simply seem out of place on the 7 Series and the X7, they appear to be better integrated on the Concept 4 that has just bowed at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
This concept is obviously here to show us what to expect from the upcoming second-generation 4 Series. And if the nose lines in the hood will make it to the production car, those super-sized kidney grilles, which are defined by little "4"s on the concept, actually have a shot at pleasing the eye, even though the polarizing nature of the design is till here.
Sure, the all-covered prototypes of the 2020/2021 BMW 4 Series look like simple two-door versions of the new 3 Series, but this concept might mean that the upcoming second-gen 4er will showcase the strongest personality of any 3 Series-based coupe to date.
Of course, not all the features of the stunning machine will make it to the showroom and, for instance, the production car will probably lose the amazing mirrors we see here.
And we could always compare the BMW M8 Gran Coupe Concept and the production car when wishing to find out what to expect from the said journey of the 4 (will the Bavarians lose the "Series" part of the model designation? Probably not).
While you check out the live image gallery above, make sure to zoom in on the eye candy provided by the laser headlights and the LED taillights.
Oh, and whatever you do, don't miss the 21-inch deep dish wheels, whose design is a showstopper on its own.
And while the interior of the 4 Concept hasn't been showcased, you can expect the production car's cabin to be largely identical to that of the sedan.
The second incarnation of the BMW 4 Series Coupe (and Cabriolet, for that matter) will go on sale next year.
