If you’re into motorsport, the moment you read Blomqvist you knew that this guy has the genes he needs to be successful. Tom Blomqvist is the latest addition to the BMW DTM line-up for this year, joining Wittmann, Tomzyk, Spengler and the rest of the guys.
The son of legendary Swedish rally driver, Stig Blomqvist, Tom has been racing in Formula 3 most recently but also in Formula Renault as far back as 2009. Being just 21 at the moment of his signing, he is one of the youngest drivers to join BMW’s DTM efforts after showing promise at the team’s trials in Jerez, back in December.
“We are delighted to welcome another very promising youngster into our ranks, in the form of Tom Blomqvist,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt.
“Tom was extremely impressive at the test in Jerez, and comes to us with a wealth of experience from Formula 3. I am confident he has everything he needs to find his feet quickly in the DTM,” he added.
As for Blomqvist, it is a dream come true if we’re to believe what he said, praising both the teams and the Motorsport family as a whole in his first statement for the press as a BMW driver.
“I cannot put into words just how delighted I am to have been signed up by BMW Motorsport,” said Blomqvist.
“I’m really proud to be a member of the BMW Motorsport family now. As well as the exciting sporting prospects, I was also immediately impressed by the great team spirit and the way I was made to feel so welcome at the test,” added the Swede.
