After finishing the qualifying runs with two cars on the front row on the Moscow Raceway, BMW’s DTM teams kept up the good work and managed to finish on the first two steps of the podium. The Sunday race saw Maxime Martin win his first DTM race and Bruno Spengler coming up just behind him.
The 46 3.931 kilometer laps were done on the outskirts of the Russian capital, with Maxime leading all the way through behind the wheel of his Samsung BMW M4 DTM. Just 4 seconds behind him was Bruno Spengler with his BMW Bank M4, marking the 16th time two BMW drivers posted a one-two finish in the competition.

It was also the third win for the BMW Team RMG in five races this season, a more than encouraging result. The previous two were posted by Marco Wittmann that came fourth in yesterday’s race, to add a couple of valuable points to his lead in the Drivers’ Championship.

Two more drivers were also in the points, with Timo Glock finishing sixth and Augusto Farfus tenth after an eventful race that had two safety car phases. With this successful event, BMW added another 64 points to its total in the Manufacturer’s Championship, closing in on Audi.

“I can’t quite believe it yet. It is simply incredible. To drive in the DTM was always a dream of mine. As I have never driven single-seater cars, I never paid much attention to Formula One. Instead, I always wanted to race in this series. And now here I am after five races, with a first pole position and maiden win to my name. Incredible!” Maxime Martin said after the race.

“That was a fantastic race for us – the most successful of the season so far. Maxime Martin produced a dominant display and a magnificent race against a great backdrop and in only his fifth race in the DTM. He was simply unbeatable this weekend. Bruno Spengler also put in a very strong performance to finish just behind him,” said Jens Marquardt.

“We once again leave Moscow very happy and are now looking forward to Spielberg,” he added.

The eight BMW cars will be heading out to the Spielberg race on August 3rd, in three weeks, hoping to repeat the performance posted in Russia, yesterday.
