Heading for the Nurburgring 24 Hours race, the guys from BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS won their second race this season in the VLN Endurance Championship on Saturday at the Nordschleife.
This time it was a shorter contest, the number 26 BMW Z4 GT3 car driven by Dirk Adorf and Nick Catsburg crossing the finish line first after just 4 hours of racing. While the team celebrated the second win of the year, for the two drivers, this was the first time they finished on the top spot, in 2014.
Unfortunately, the second car of the team, driven by Maxime Martin, Jorg Muller and Marco Wittmann didn’t finish the race, despite being amongst the top 5 positions for most of the time. An accident in the final round brought an abrupt end to their endeavor.
Uwe Alzen and Philipp Wlazik managed to claim fourth place in their BMW Z4 GT3 car, driving for the Uwe Alzen Automotive team while Ralf Oeverhaus and Henry Walkenhorst finished ninth for Walkenhorst Motorsport.
“Everything came together today. I am absolutely delighted with this win. I have a strong team and a very consistent and quick team-mate to thank. Nicky has now won two of his first three VLN races so far. He deserves the utmost respect for that achievement,” said Dirk Adorf after the race.
“Most of all, however, I am pleased that we had a car today, in the BMW Z4 GT3, which also ran well and without any problems when forced away from the racing line. That will be very important at the 24-hour race. And winning that is obviously the ultimate goal,” he added.
As for the M235i Racing Cup race, the win went over to Max Partl and Jorg Weidinger of the Scheid-Partl Motorsport team, uttering the Team Principal, Johannes Scheid to praise both his drivers and the BMW Motorsport support for their car:
“There is obviously still room for improvement, but we are receiving very good support from BMW Motorsport in that regard. The overall standings in the VLN look pretty good for us at the moment, but the season is still far too young to pay much attention to them.”
