Three decades have passed since the original M3 was launched. BMW had to celebrate, so the M3 “30 Years M3” was created.
We are writing about a special edition of the model that deserves to wear the iconic nameplate. BMW's M division has unveiled a limited-edition model that was designed to celebrate 30 years since the launch of the E30 M3, the first of the series.
It will be available starting this summer, and it is painted in the exclusive color called “Macao Blue Metallic,” a shade that was optionally available for the first generation of the M3. You could consider this availability as a nod to the iconic model.
To create this particular edition, BMW started off with the Competition Package available for the ongoing M3. In standard trim, this variant comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, but can be had with a seven-speed M DCT transmission as well.
The engine, suspension, steering, and transmission remain standard, as do the performance provided by this version of the M3. So peak output is 450 HP, while the Adaptive M Suspension is included in the package thanks to the Competition trim.
Once inside, on top of all the elements added through the Competition Package, the special edition of the M3 features a dedicated logo “30 Years M3,” placed on the front door sills. Furthermore, the carbon fiber interior trim strip on the dash has a unique numbered plaque, which shows the sequence number of each car.
Since BMW will only make 500 of these, that number is important for the future collector, and the first and last cars are expected to be worth more over the years. Good luck buying those!
The headrests of the front seats are embroidered with “30 Years M3,” and the upholstery for this model is made of Merino leather in a bicolor combination of black and “Fjord Blue.” Optionally, customers could order a mix of black and “Silverstone,” complete with color-matching contrast seams.
When compared to an M3 with the Competition Package, the special edition anniversary model costs 10,000 euros more on the German market. Since we are talking about a limited-edition car of an already rare BMW model, these 500 cars will probably retain value for longer periods of time.
