The evolution of the BMW Navigation System is continuing at a fast rate, with a new generation of the system, equipped with a little extra, to be launched this fall by the German manufacturer on all of its models.
The BMW Navigation System Professional will be offered a few months from now, complete with the new Real-Time Traffic Information (RTTI) developed by the auto maker's infamous ConnectedDrive.
RTTI, which will replace in the premium segment the Traffic Message Channel (TMC will remain available for those who choose not to get the RTTI), covers motorways, major roads, country roads and inner-city links. The exact number of countries which will be covered by the system has not yet been announced.
According to BMW, the new system is supposed to come with more detailed information, more frequent updating, optimized re-routing recommendations. This is possible, says the car maker, thanks partially to the data communication being done via cellular networks and the SIM integrated in the vehicle.
“Unexpected delays occurring on the alternative route are thus a thing of the past. Instead, the navigation system always seeks out the fastest route to the driver’s selected destination, even under the most adverse conditions,” promises BMW.
The new Real-Time Traffic Information will be available, at prices yet to be disclosed, for the BMW models equipped with the BMW Navigation System Professional including mobile phone preparation with Bluetooth interface. It will be offered as a priced option in addition to a BMW ConnectedDrive contract.
