BMW C1-E Goes to the UK

BMW announced that it will showcase the C1-E concept vehicle in the UK at the National Bike Safe Motorcycle Show 2010, which will take place at Sheffield Arena on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 June.

The public can get one of the first glimpses of the BMW at the National BikeSafe Motorcycle Show. There will be plenty of activities for the whole family as well as the option to go on the ever-popular rides with the BikeSafe police team,” said BikeSafe organisers.

The BMW C1-E’s concept is high-level active and passive safety ensured by a roll-over bar spanning the rider combined with energy-absorbing features at the nose-end and a rider harness. The safety features taken from the former BMW C1 have been enhanced. Regarded as a milestone in safety on two wheels, it is the only motorised single-track vehicle to be exempt from mandatory helmet wearing in almost all European countries,” stated the press release.

The difference between the former C1 and the new C1-E concept is the latter’s electric motor. This has been engineered for city use and gets its power from a lithium-ion battery. However, BMW said that the vehicle can also be equipped with a low-emissions internal combustion engine.

The National BikeSafe Motorcycle Show 2010 offers something for all bikers. With over 100 exhibitors and trade stands, stunt riders, free assessed ride-outs plus lots of family attractions there is something for every motorcycle and scooter enthusiast!” stated the press release.
