BMW Boss Wants a Big Crossover for the US

In a recent talk with J.D. Power International Automotive, Mr. Ludwig Willisch, CEO of BMW of North America, talked about his wishes for the German brand in the near future.

Apart from showing some anxiety related to the shortage of cars for the US market, he also talked about a possible new model to be built on the North American continent, as part of the X Series.

"Obviously, there is room above the X5. Why shouldn't we be able to cover that room with a BMW?" he said and I agree but only to a certain extent.

Recent niche models have proved successful, showing that the world, today, is more interested in a brand and a badge than in its history above anything else. Cars such as the 3 Series GT, X6 and Gran Coupe models are doing better than the die-hard fan expected therefore confirming that not just handling characteristics matter these days.

Building a bigger SUV than the X5 is doable but in this case, I think only the US market would really be interested in such a car and possibly some of the Chinese customers that seem to really value their space.

Such a model would go head to head with other offerings from Cadillac (Escalade) and Lincoln (Navigator) that are really popular on the North American continent, giving the Americans a taste of their own medicine.

However, Willisch also said that an X7 is still far from a possibility, at the moment, being unlikely to arrive in the near future. Keep your fingers crossed, though!
