Up until this moment, BMW Australia didn't even consider introducing xDrive systems for its sedans but recent developments might make them reconsider.
Even though the xDrive system is known for its winter/snow performance, its applications could be expanded to a wide range of new areas, like improving performance and competing with other all-wheel-drive cars.

“We are thinking, could there be a role for an xDrive model in a performance capacity? As this is something that people could understand even if they’re not driving in the snow," said Toni Andreevski, BMW Australia’s head of product and market planning.

The recent launch of Mercedes-Benz's A45 AMG might speed things up, as the Benz is fitted with a four-wheel-drive system. That's why BMW Australia might consider introducing the new M135i xDrive first, to compete with the Merc.

"One idea we could look at would be to offer xDrive on our M135i, where you get an even faster acceleration time with xDrive," stated Andreevski.
