The Moscow Auto Show was supposed to host a couple of important regional and world debuts for BMW but, unfortunately, the sanctions imposed by the EU on Russia forced the German automaker to reconsider. Therefore, at the MIAS (Moscow International Auto Show), the audience gets to see only a few models from Bavaria.
Amongst the cars rumored to make their world debut here was the brand new F16 X6, the latest iteration of the Sport Activity Coupe from Munich that is extremely popular in Russia. While we did see how the car looks like in photos, a chance to watch it in the flesh would’ve been welcome.

Instead, BMW brought their second SAC ever to the show, the brand new BMW F26 X4. The smaller Coupe SUV was joined on stage by the brand new BMW X3 LCI, a car that is still one of the most popular models sold by the Germans worldwide and one that we also sampled a while back.

A real premiere was the introduction of new BMW ConnectedDrive services. Previously unavailable in Russia, the new features will be usable through a telephone or direct online connection via an integrated SIM card that will become a standard feature on all future BMW cars. They include BMW online (the iDrive internet portal), the Intelligent Emergency Call service that automatically calls for help in case of an accident, Real Time Traffic Information, Concierge Services and Remote Services.

Since the climate in the eastern side of Russia seems to be getting more and more tense, the X5 Security Plus car was also brought out on the MIAS stage. This is the company’s new protection and security vehicle that complies with the VR6 level of protection.

That means it can withstand direct shots from the world’s most popular machine gun, the AK-47, that was invented by the Russians as well. The Security Plus X5 can be used in private fleets but also for officials and dignitaries.

The passenger cell is armored and has sealed joints to provide protection in all areas, including the most sensitive ones. Under the bonnet hides the N63 engine with its V8 configuration and 450 HP joined by 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque, plenty to get you out of dangerous situations.

You can check out all of these cars and technologies at the 2014 Moscow International Auto Show until September 7. The event is hosted by the Crocus Expo IEC Exhibition Center.
