The 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show is creeping up on us and BMW decided to let us know exactly what its line-up will be made up of. There will be 2 world premieres at their stand as well as two cars that will be showing up on the North American continent for the first time.
The new BMW X5 M and X6 M will be representing the world debuts, showing up in front of a live audience for the first time. The new cars come out with new engines and new transmissions as well, showing drastic improvements over their predecessors.

Under the bonnet will be a 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbocharged plant now making 575 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque, 20 HP and 70 Nm more than on the units that will now be retired.

That translates into better fuel consumption (by 20 percent) and better CO2 emissions (by more than 20 percent). At the same time, the new xDrive system that’s RWD biased will allow the heavyweights to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds.

That’s also where the new 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic steps in. It’s a torque converter that mimics the way the 7-speed dual clutch works.

2 Series Convertible and BMW X6 are showing up in the US for the first time

The 2 Series Convertible was unveiled only a few weeks ago and is now making its NA premiere. After bowing at Paris, the car will now be showcased for the US market.

The electrically operated soft-top ensures optimised acoustic comfort and can be opened or closed in just 20 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph). At first, only the 228i and M235i versions will be offered with their xDrive versions as well.

The new X6 will be presented in the top of the line version, xDrive50i. Fitted with a 450 HP V8, this model is a beast without wearing the M badge.

The standard equipment accompanying the new BMW X6 goes well beyond that of the previous model, while the Sports Activity Coupe’s exclusive style can be accentuated yet further courtesy of the M Sport Package, Design Pure Extravagance option and model-specific features from BMW Individual.

All the madness begins on November 18 for the press and two days later for everyone else. Stay tuned as we’ll be bringing you live updates from the scene.
