BMW Announces All-New Boxer Engine for 2013

Despite the move BMW has just made in the realm of the liquid-cooled boxer engines with the 2013 R1200GS, it looks like the future will still bring air-cooled power units.

At least this is what Stephan Schaller, president of BMW Motorrad told the press in a speech at the EICMA in Milan, Italy. To celebrate 90 years of air-cooled boxer engines, BMW will show a new engine in 2013, destined to be a “multifaceted concept”.

Further details have not been given, but the German manufacturer stressed it till combine the genes of a 90-years-old idea and the actual purpose of a modern engine. The first motorcycle to to sport the iconic air-cooled, 4-stroke 2 opposed cylinder later known to the automotive world by its “boxer”moniker.

Technical details upon the new power unit and launch date will be made available later, BMW notes.
