BMW Group is set to release 22 new models, 10 of which have no predecessor, by the end of 2014.
This long awaited disclosure was made by BMW's development Chief, Herbert Diess, in an interview offered to German newspaper Auto Motor und Sport.
This official confirmed BMW's plans to release a X4 model in 2014, adding that the Munchen-based company will further expand its front-wheel drive lineup (1-Series GT), while the 3, 5 and 7 Series models will continue to be offered with rear-wheel drive.
"By the end of 2014, we want to bring 22 new models to our entire BMW Group model range, of which ten have no predecessor. In the long term, the proportion of front-wheel drive vehicles will certainly increase," said Diess.
Asked about the small i3's uncertain future and potential failure on the market, Diess stressed that BMW "strives to have a pioneering role in electric mobility".
"We are convinced that as a premium manufacturer we will have a significant amount of the electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids the future needs," added BMW's development chief.
