Word has it German automaker BMW is already planning to extend its brand new “i” lineup with a vehicle bigger than the i3. According to What Car?, the Munich-based representatives are discussing whether the new electric car, which will be called i5, should be a crossover or a sedan.
“We are having these discussions right now and no decision has been taken. In fact, there's still not an absolute decision that the car, if it is called i5, should even happen. Many, including myself, believe that there is potential. Then if we decide the car should happen, we need to decide if it is a regular sedan or something where the passengers are sitting slightly higher up,” a company insider told What Car?

If approved, the i5 will most likely be developed with rear-wheel drive and extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic, just like the new i3 that’s scheduled to arrive in dealerships next month.
